About

Artsürem is a gallery in Ankara. In spacious rooms with high walls it shows contemporary art from Turkey and its own collection. Our aim is to bring good works to the right places, not simply to sell.

The name comes from linguistics: “artsürem” is the Turkish word for diachrony, looking at succession over time; its counterpart “eşsürem” stands for synchrony, what exists side by side at the same time. Both shape our work: we ask where a work comes from and which works of its time it is in conversation with.

Alongside exhibitions, Artsürem publishes academic journals and books on art, language and culture. Our team comes from painting, sculpture, film, political science, law, linguistics, psychology, economics and software.

Artsürem Berlin is our first step into Europe: a small, carefully chosen selection of contemporary art from Turkey for collectors in Germany, including works by artists we have worked with for years.
